In the past, present, and the future of the piano music communication between China and Germany,A virtuoso pianist, Michael Korstick,Yangzhou University College of Music master class series

In order to further cultivate and enhance the professional quality of college students and strengthen the quality of piano teaching, on the afternoon of October 21st, the College of Music invited the famous pianist Michael Korstick to hold the Piano Master Class Lecture "The History of Sino-German Piano Art Exchange, Present and Future" in the lecture hall of Lifu Library. This is one of the series of lectures of the International Academic Forum on Piano Teaching of the College of Music. The Dean of the School of Music, Mr. Shao Ping, the Vice Dean, Mr. Yao Ting, the Director of the Piano Teaching and Research Office, Mr. Fu Long, as well as all the teachers in the Piano Department, and all students in the school attended this lecture.

Michael Kostick, who was born in Cologne in 1955, is well-known in both Europe and America for his impressive recordings and releases. He has won numerous important awards, including Germany’s Echo Klassik prize in 2005, the MIDEM Classical Award Cannes in 2009, as well was of seven “Awards of the German Record Critics”, mostly in 2022. He was also the recipient of the Special Achievement Award at the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA) 2022.

In this lecture, Professor Korstick taught and guided students with the combination of piano works. Four students of piano major from different classification played in the masterclass. Li Xinyi: Ballade No. 3 op. 47 from Chopin, Tang Yichen: Etude op. 10 no. 12 from Chopin, Wang Kaifeng: Piano Sonata no. 7 op. 83 third movement from Prokofiev, Wang Zhaoyuan: Hungarian Rhapsody No.6 from Liszt. Professor Korstick provided guidance to the four students on finger techniques, comparison of sound strength and weakness, pedal usage skills (how to make the sound clear), and understanding of music.


        This piano master class not only allows students to learn more performance skills, but also allows students to enter the deepest part of the artist's heart and feel the beauty of pure Classical music!
