Young and Middle-Aged Faculty Concert Scuuessfully Held at Yangzhou University’s College of Music


A splendid musical feast, brimming with professional mastery and cultural sentiments, concluded on the evening of December 3 at the Yifu Library Lecture Hall, Lotus Pond Campus. Among the attendees were Chen Liyong, Executive Vice Minister of the CPC Committee’s Faculty Affairs Department; Chen Peipei, Director of the Student Affairs Department; Bi Liang, Secretary of the University Youth League Committee; all leaders of the College of Music, as well as faculty and student representatives.

   


The concert gathered the backbone young and middle-aged teachers under the age of 50 from the College of Music. Devoted to teaching, they nurture music talents with rigorous dedication; grounded in artistic practice, they interpret the beauty of music with professional expertise. The concert was hosted by Dean Shao Ping, with Professor Zhang Meilin serving as the keynote speaker. The performances featured a variety of forms, including solo singing, instrumental solos, and ensemble pieces. The repertoire spanned four categories: ancient melodies, folk instrumental music, folk songs, and Chinese art songs. Each piece was meticulously selected and polished, paying homage to timeless classics while showcasing the profound artistic skills of the faculty.

                           



                           


"Joyful Reunion" was performed by Li Qiwei, Tao Siyan, and Sun Feiyi in an instrumental ensemble. Its lively melody and dynamic collaboration set a joyful tone for the opening of the concert.


                           


"I Live at the Head of the Yangtze River" was sung by Wang Yan. With her rich and delicate voice, she accurately conveyed the deep yet restrained longing expressed in this classic art song.

                           


 "Cang Ge Yin" was performed by Chen Kejing and Fu Long through an instrumental dialogue, creating an ancient and profound traditional musical atmosphere.

                           



"Butterflies in Love with Flowers – Reply to Li Shuyi" was sung by Zhang Yan. Her lyrical delivery conveyed the revolutionary spirit and artistic appeal within the poetic lyrics.


                           


"Flowing Water" was performed by Jiang He on the guqin. While rooted in traditional style, the performance incorporated a personal understanding of the concept of "harmony between man and nature," expressing the spirit of the landscape through the music.


                           


"I Love This Land" was sung by Gao Jie. Her heartfelt performance vividly expressed a deep attachment to the homeland.


                           



"Narrative of Weishan Lake" was performed by Li Jiabao and Yang Yu on instruments. Their collaboration painted a vivid lakeside scene rich with regional character and human warmth.


                           


"Love of the Sea" was sung by Xia Yan. With her warm and clear voice, she gradually unveiled the song's emotional layers, expressing both a longing for the sea and a steadfastness of feeling.


                           


"Mountains and Waters" was performed by Cheng Li and Fu Long through instrumental interplay. It showcased the harmonious beauty of "mountains embraced by waters," blending the traditional aesthetic of "the interplay of void and solid."


                           


"Flowing Stream" was sung by Feng Lingyan. While preserving the local flavor and lively beauty of this Yunnan folk song, she infused it with nuanced emotional expression.


                           



 "Spring and Autumn" was performed by Lin Yan and Xu Jing. Blending traditional and modern elements, it conveyed the humanistic sentiment and historical legacy spanning the passage of time.

                           


"Song of Longing for Home" was sung by Yao Ting. His deep and magnetic voice delivered a poignant interpretation of the timeless theme of "homesickness."


                           



As the performance drew to a close, renowned tenor Zhang Meilin and Dean Shao Ping were invited to the stage for a vocal presentation, followed by their professional commentary on the concert. Professor Zhang Meilin spoke highly of the performances from both artistic expression and professional technique, stating, "The young and middle-aged faculty members have demonstrated solid professional skills and mature artistic sensibility in their interpretation of the repertoire. Such a platform for practice holds profound significance for the growth of teachers and the continuity of artistry." Dean Shao Ping, reflecting from the perspective of teaching development and outcome translation, noted, "This concert not only serves as a concentrated test of the faculty’s artistic practice capabilities but also vividly embodies the college’s philosophy of ‘enhancing teaching through performance and educating through art.’ By refining their skills and deepening their reflections on stage, teachers feed their artistic insights back into teaching, fully highlighting the core value of such concerts in both professional development and talent cultivation."


                           



                           


This concert served not only as a "comprehensive showcase" of the professional expertise of the young and middle-aged faculty at Yangzhou University’s College of Music, but also as a vivid embodiment of the college’s teaching philosophy of "advancing artistry through teaching and educating through art." Moving forward, the college will continue to leverage such high-caliber artistic practices as a platform to further promote disciplinary development and the translation of teaching achievements into outcomes, injecting new vitality into campus cultural enrichment and the advancement of arts education.
