Musicology

Musicology currently holds the right to grant Master's degree in Music and Dance, Art, and In-service Education. There are 5 professors: Zhang Meilin, Liu Yongfu, Fang Guangyao, Yang Dianxi, and Hu Liang, 7 associate professors and 10 master tutors.


Disciplinary advantages: As a conservatory of comprehensive university with a status in the province and a domestic influence, our institute has a rich accumulation of various research directions under the discipline of music and dance, relying on the comprehensive resource advantages of our hospital, in vocal music. A large amount of teaching and practical experience has been accumulated in the construction of teaching and teaching, instrumental music performance and teaching (musical instrument), music theory research (Traditional Palace Tonics, Anthropology of Music, Organology).


Profile of the leader: Zhang Meilin, professor, master tutor. He is currently the Dean of the Conservatory of Music in Yangzhou University, the Outstanding Young Core Teacher of the “Blue Project” of Jiangsu Province, the member of the National High School Musical Music Committee, the executive director of the Chinese National Vocal Music Research Association, the vice chairman of the Jiangsu Vocal Association, and the vice chairman of Yangzhou Culture Association. He is also a member of the Jiangsu Provincial Political Consultative Conference and member of the Standing Committee of the Yangzhou Municipal Political Consultative Conference. He has hosted and participated in many provincial and ministerial projects, and has won several provincial and ministerial social science awards including the Jiangsu Provincial Philosophy and Social Science Awards, and has published many papers.


The main task: the discipline construction of musicology is based on the master's degree-granting unit, focusing on the construction of vocal singing and teaching, instrumental music performance and teaching, music theory research (Traditional Palace Tonics, Anthropology of Music, and Organology) and other three directions. During the “Thirteenth Five-Year Plan” period, a rational disciplinary structure with professors as the core, master tutors and young backbone teachers as the main force was formed. In the vocal singing and teaching, instrumental music and teaching, music theory research (Traditional Palace Tonics, Anthropology of Music, and Organology) has reached the leading level in the industry and has a large academic influence in the country.


Achievements: In the past five years, there have been a number of vertical research projects including the Humanities and Social Sciences Research Project of the Ministry of Education, the Cultural and Artistic Research Project of the Ministry of Culture, the Science and Technology Innovation Project of the Ministry of Culture, and the Provincial and Ministerial Philosophy and Social Science Planning Project.  The Conservatory has received 2 patents granted by the State Intellectual Property Office (instrumental improvement), and published more than 100 papers in domestic authoritative journals and academic conferences together with monographs and textbooks. What is more, the Conservatory has won many awards for outstanding achievements in philosophy and social sciences in Jiangsu Province and Yangzhou City. For example, the vocal music teaching team led by Professor Zhang Meilin, Liu Yongfu, Yang Dianzhen led the research and music anthropology research team, and the musical instrument research team led by Prof. Hu Liang has formed a great influence in the industry.
